Dole acquires Mrs. May's to boost natural portfolio

Fruit and vegetable producer Dole has acquired US-based snacks firm Mrs May’s Naturals for an undisclosed sum.

Dole said the move would help it boost its portfolio of healthy packaged foods.

Mrs May’s will become part of the Dole Packaged Foods division.

All-natural boost

“The acquisition will accelerate the development of Dole's all-natural offerings in the health and nutrition space,” said the company in a statement.

David DeLorenzo, president and CEO at Dole Food Company added: "Mrs. May's Naturals is a recognized name with proven results at major retailers."

"Their all-natural snacks, which include vegan, gluten-free, and kosher options, fit perfectly with the Dole 'Nutrition Plus' product line which is designed to improve health and wellness through diet," he said.

Mrs May’s

Mrs May’s was founded in 2002 and last year posted revenues of around $16m.

The company manufactures a range of ‘natural’ snacks product such as fruit and nut based clusters, bars and freeze-dried fruit.

By comparison, Dole’s portfolio is centred on fresh fruit and vegetables.

“Mrs. May's Naturals will help expand Dole's offerings in new sections of the grocery store,” said the company

Mrs. May's products will continue to be packaged under the Mrs. May's label and carried in their existing retailers.

“Dole sees the retention of the independent brand label as an opportunity to grow the brand and will also be looking at co-branding opportunities and new product development,” said the firm.
