Caught on camera! Highlights from the Winter Fancy Food Show

With buyers from Whole Foods, Kroger, KeHE, Compass Group, Dean & DeLuca and hundreds of other retailers and foodservice chains walking the floor looking for innovative new products, the Winter Fancy Food Show has helped to launch scores of high-profile food & beverage brands from Pop Chips to Honest Tea. FoodNavigator-USA editor Elaine Watson chewed the fat with some visitors and exhibitors.

First we talked to Tio Gazpacho founder & CEO Austin Allan, who gave us an update on the progress of his innovative chilled soup-in-a-bottle products.

Says Allan (who was walking the floor, but not exhibiting at the show): "We think we can double, triple or quadruple our business very quickly."

Dylan Myers at Pok Pok Som, which is building a presence in the drinking vinegar category.

Says Myers: "The whole fermentation thing is really taking off and I think this kind of fits in with that, with kombucha, kimchi and so on."

Amit Pandhi at Arctic Zero, which has just unveiled a new look for its 150-calorie-a-pint frozen desserts.

Says Pandhi: "Consumers are looking for products that are nutrition-packed and guilt-free but still satisfy their sweet tooth, and I think our product does that better than anyone else."

Greg Steltenpohl at Califia Farms, which was showcasing its new almond-milk based non-dairy creamers.

Says Steltenpohl, when asked what the reaction has been like from retail buyers: "In a word? Awesome."

Smári Ásmundsson at SMÁRI organic Icelandic yogurt, which is looking to persuade us that Greek yogurt isn't the only game in town.

Says Ásmundsson: "I think we have the healthiest yogurt on the market. It's hard to get consumers to try a new brand, but once people try it's game over, and they are loyal consumers."
