Coca-Cola launches bespoke typeface

Coca-Cola has launched its first company-wide proprietary typeface, TCCC Unity, drawing inspiration from ‘the modernist American typography movement and Coca-Cola’s unique personality’.

The typeface was designed by Brody Associates with the Coca-Cola Global Design team.

“TCCC Unity draws its typographic personality and DNA from The Coca-Cola Company’s archive taking inspiration and reference points from the modernist American typography movement and Coca-Cola’s unique personality,” says Brody Associates.

“This DNA is blended with practical type features and design requirements to meet with the reality of today’s world. Blending the past with the present.”

Coca-Cola has a number of key recognisable elements such as its logo, color and bottle shape, but it is the first time in its 130-year history that it has owned a proprietary font.

Other companies that use their own bespoke typeface include YouTube, IBM, Apple and the BBC.
