Sabinsa positions itself as full-service contract manufacturer

Nutritional ingredient firm Sabinsa has said its new manufacturing and distribution facility is fully operational, which the company hopes will allow it to take its ingredients into international markets.

Located in Payson, Utah, the 17,000 square-foot center provides focuses on the development of capsules, tablets, bulk custom pre-mixes, drum-to-hopper blends, stick packs, and powdered drinks. The company said its new facility will provide customers with value-added manufacturing capabilities that "meet all of their formulation needs". Other advantages include added convenience, "substantial" cost savings and a decreased time to market for products, according to the firm's founder and CEO Muhammed Majeed. The expansion and upgrade is in part being pushed forward on the basis of manufacturing to meeting regulatory standards that differ from country to country. Sabinsa, which makes herbal extracts, cosmeceuticals, minerals and specialty fine chemicals said it is working to secure Australian TGA and other international regulatory certifications for the new facility. The company hopes this will allow it to better serve its domestic clients with international distribution, as well as international clients currently serviced through other Sabinsa offices globally. The upgraded facility, which will operate under the name Sabinsa Manufacturing, includes new technology that will provide high volume capacity in fluid bed processing/granulation and high volume custom drum-to-hopper blends. Sabinsa is also constructing analytical, microbiological and pilot laboratories to assure product quality and consistency and facilitate product development and efficient batch scale-up. On the announcement of the new facility last year, Ed Olson, Sabinsa senior vice president of manufacturing had said: "Our new facility extends the company's vision of being a world leader in quality, science-based ingredients by offering additional processes to help us meet increasing customer demands. This expansion extends our vertical integration making us an even better resource for our clients." Sabinsa said its contract manufacturing services include: Blending (10,000 kg/shift); Roll compaction (1,400 kg/shift); Fluid-bed granulation (3,500 kg/shift); High sheer granulation (1,400 kg/shift); Comill particle size reduction (5,000 kg/shift); Tablet compression (1 MM tabs/shift); Tablet coating (120 kg/shift); Encapsulation (1.2 MM caps/shift); and Stick Packs (0.14 MM/shift).
