The company, a subsidiary of Compass Minerals, said that the new salts respond to consumer demand for more dietary choice.
Sifto said its low-sodium salt is a mixture of regular salt (sodium chloride) and potassium chloride, resulting in a 50 percent reduction in sodium. It will also offer a zero-sodium option made from potassium chloride.
The company’s vice president and general manager of consumer and industrial business Jerry Bucan said: “Sifto’s new specialty salt line offers consumers more options for cooking at home and gives retailers the potential for higher sales and margins.”
The new Sifto salt products will be available in supermarkets by fall.
