ConAgra, Campbell issue large-scale recalls

ConAgra Foods and Campbell Soup Supply Co both issued large-scale recalls yesterday across the United States.

Iowa-based ConAgra Foods Packaged Foods issued the recall after its Marie Callender's Cheesy Chicken and Rice frozen meals were linked to an outbreak of Salmonella chester involving 29 people across 14 states. Eight of the victims reported eating the brand although the US for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said it has yet to make a definitive connection.

Campbell Soup Supply, Texas, also announced it was recalling 15m pounds (6.8m kg) of SpaghettiOs with meatballs because of possible under-processing. The company said some of the canned products were made more than 18 months previously. The cans have a ‘Use by’ date between June 2010 and December 2011 and were manufactured between December 2008 and June.
