Bosch conference explores coffee trends

This week Bosch held its third Coffee Symposium in Waiblingen Germany, bringing together more than 70 international customers, representatives and experts in the coffee industry.

Bosch specialists and industry experts presented on trends and consumer demands that they claim are shaping coffee processing and packaging

“By bringing coffee industry players to the table, our Coffee Symposium helps to encourage synergies, establish best practices and inspire innovation in the coffee industry”, said Dr Ulrich Brief, vice president product group package makers, Bosch Packaging Technology.

Bosch said the conference included presentations highlighting changes in global coffee culture, indicating continued high growth in demand for single-serve portions such as coffee capsules and pods.

Another trend identified, according to Bosch was consumer demand for higher quality coffee, which is dependent on sourcing a high-quality raw product from the farm in addition to grinding and reliable packaging.

Initiatives to support smallholder coffee production and corporate social responsibility were other key topics along with sustainability.

Presentations included information on sustainable production and packaging technology, from energy efficient roasting through to biodegradable packaging material.
