The Interpack trade show currently being held in the German city of Dusseldorf is a truly global event that has attracted around 2,700 exhibitors from 60 countries.
FoodProductionDaily.com caught up with Jorge Izquierdo, of US trade association PMMI, to find out why more than a quarter of its 500 members made the trip across the Atlantic to be at the event.
The vice president of marketing for the packaging machinery industry group talked about the difference in the ‘personalities’ of US and European shows. While a more direct approach may be adopted by North American firms, the aim of events in both continents was nonetheless to do business, he added.
And enthusing about the ‘buzz’ from the show floor, Izquierdo said deals were being struck across the 19 halls of the vast Messe hosting the event.
He also forecast the weaker dollar was likely to boost exports for US packaging machinery producers by as much as 15 per cent in the coming year – creating a windfall reaching $150m for the industry.
