Mizkan introduces restaurant-inspired honey and fig balsamic vinegar ingredients
The company’s Food Ingredients division has developed the natural fig-flavored and honey-flavored balsamic vinegars for use in marinades, dressings, sauces, soups and prepackaged meals, among other applications. The company already has an Italian and domestic balsamic vinegar for food manufacturers, as well as a balsamic reduction and a balsamic vinegar powder.
Director of sales and marketing for Food Ingredients at Mizkan Dave Sackett said: “With our new honey balsamic and fig balsamic vinegars, we are staying on trend with the new and full-bodied flavors we see rising from the chef-driven culinary world.”
The company said it has seen an 11% rise in sales of its balsamic vinegars over the past year, and expects to see the trend continue as manufacturers continue to look to restaurant menus for new packaged food concepts.
The vinegars are both all-natural products with 0mg of sodium per 15mL serving, and are intended to add a distinctive flavor to finished products, the company said.
Mizkan Americas Food Technologist Maggie Harvey said: “The honey and balsamic flavors are a great compliment to each other, even if it’s just as a sprinkle on a fresh green salad with a little olive oil. We wanted to provide the food ingredient market with a naturally flavored, economical product available in bulk.”
The fig-flavored balsamic vinegar has also been inspired by restaurant trends, the company said.
“Mizkan is taking a cue from the trends in the culinary world, where figs have gained a foothold on restaurant menus,” said Harvey. “Our fig vinegar brings an exciting new flavor into our product line and makes it accessible for the food ingredient industry to use in a wide range of applications.”
