A Burger King customer has reportedly found a razor blade in a cheeseburger in California.

A police investigation found the franchisee of the fast food giant permitted loose razor blades, that were used for cleaning, to be kept in the food preparation area, according to local media.

The customer, who was not injured in the incident, found the blade between the cheese and the burger earlier this month.

In a statement, the fast food chain said food safety is a top priority for Burger King restaurants’ globally.

“Burger King Corp. has strict food handling and guest policies and procedures in place that all crew members are required to follow. Franchisees are responsible for implementing these policies and emphasize the proper food safety procedures to all crew members.

“The franchisee, who independently owns and operates this restaurant, is fully cooperating with the Willits Police Department.”
