A rose by the same name will taste less sweet: Coca Cola Canada reduces sweetness and calories

Coca-Cola in Canada will be ‘slightly less sweet’ this year, as the company brings the product in line with its offer across the rest of the world.

The change is one of several moves from Coca-Cola Canada to lower calories.

A spokesperson told BeverageDaily.com the product has been the same since manufacturing in Canada began in 1906.

“We are not changing the formula, just the concentration of the syrup, to be consistent with the Coca-Cola enjoyed around the world.

“If you have travelled to the US and enjoyed a Coca-Cola there, it will taste the same.

“A 355ml can of Coca-Cola states 160 calories now, and will state 140 calories with this change.”

Coca-Cola Canada’s other initiatives include a new 310ml can; reducing its most popular immediate consumption package size by 15% (500ml); and making mini-cans (222ml) and glass bottles (237ml) more available.

The new formats will be rolled out over the coming weeks and months.

Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, and Coca-Cola Zero are all available in Canada.
