Diamond Foods buys majority stake in Yellow Chips

US snack major Diamond Foods has bought a 51% stake in its European Kettle chip co-manufacturer to drive presence in the booming vegetable chip market, its CEO says.

Netherlands-based Yellow Chips produces the Kettle brand for Europe as well as vegetable and organic potato chips for private labels. It also has its own premium brand Go Pure.

Brian Driscoll, president and CEO of Diamond Foods, said the majority interest buy would strengthen the company’s traction in the UK and Europe, enabling it to “better compete in the on-trend, high growth vegetable chip category”.

MD of Kettle Chips UK Dominic Lowe said it would help significantly grow Kettle’s UK and European presence.
