Ice Cream Inspired yogurt combines indulgence and goodness: Muller Quaker

PepsiCo's US yogurt venture, Muller Quaker Dairy, has launched a new range that combines the "indulgence of ice cream with the goodness of yogurt."

Each 150g pot of Müller Ice Cream Inspired yogurt, available in Raspberry Chocolate Chip, Vanilla Bean, Strawberries and Cream, and Mint Chocolate Chip variations, contains 210 calories, 7g of protein, and 20% of the recommended daily intake (RDI) of calcium.

The "indulgent taste of ice cream" is down to the sugar content, which at 22g per 150g pot is 4g less than some Müller Corner products.

"The majority of the sugar found in most Müller products comes from real fruit as well as the lactose naturally occurring in milk," Brian Hannigan, director of marketing, Muller Quaker Dairy, told DairyReporter.com.

"We add just enough sugar to deliver the best tasting yogurts."

This combination of "indulgence" and "goodness" is a major draw for US consumers, said Hannigan.

"Americans are looking for products that taste great and also provide some nutritional benefits, and Müller yogurt delivers," he said.

"Take Müller’s newest ice cream inspired flavours - they offer the indulgence of ice cream in the goodness of yogurt."

“Müller yogurt has been perfecting deliciousness for the world’s most notorious pleasure seekers, Europeans, for more than a century. As one of the leading yogurt brands in Europe, Müller is making waves on this side of the pond for its unapologetically creamy taste and indulgent flavours," said Hannigan.

Gaining traction

Muller Quaker Dairy, the US yogurt joint venture established by PepsiCo and Germany dairy Müller in 2012, introduced the Müller yogurt brand to the US.

It immediately launched three products - Müller Corner, Müller Greek, and Müller FrütUp.

It later broke ground on a plant in Batavia, New York, where manufacturing operations began in June 2013.

Ice Cream Inspired is the first addition to the Muller Quaker Dairy portfolio since its arrival in the US.

Nearly three-years on, Muller Quaker Dairy is seemingly gaining traction in the US and is reportedly "on pace" to reach US$100m in retail sales.

“This is a very exciting time for yogurt with a heightening interest in the category overall,” said Hannigan.

“With that comes the opportunity to expand consumption to more consumers and day-parts with new products and varieties. Müller has a diverse product portfolio that can be enjoyed any time of day.”

“Consumer reaction to Müller has been very positive and we are excited and poised to lead in the years ahead with even more new product innovations and ways to experience our products," he added.
