The plant went through modernization of its stages of boning, salting, drying and waste treatment facilities, and it was expanded to house new machines, optimize processes and increase production.
The investment totalled R $18 million and, with the expansion, the unit's production capacity will increase from 1,000 tons to 1,600 tons per month.
“With the renovation, the Santana do Parnaíba unit becomes the most modern in the manufacture of charque in the country, with the strictest sanitary and quality processes, in addition to becoming a model plant in the treatment of the water used,” said Renato Costa, president of JBS Carnes.
The plant also was installed with a new waste treatment equipment that allows the water used in the process to be returned to the environment with more than 97% purity thanks to new electrolytic plates installed in the tank. The treatment capacity also increased, accompanying the increase in production.
Acquired by JBS in 2013, the Santana de Parnaíba plant employs 230 people. The production serves both the domestic market - producing jerky and dried meat for the Friboi brands and own label brands for retail chains.
