Pepperoni recalled after customers find metal in their meat
The family-owned smoked meat producer, based in Ferndale, Washington, voluntarily launched a recall of around 4,069 pounds of pepperoni sticks, stocked by east Washington retailers.
The US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said there had been “no confirmed reports of adverse reactions” linked to consumption of Hempler Food Group’s pepperoni sticks.
The vacuum-packed products, manufactured on 10 October 2017, carry this case code: 59716.
As per standard recall procedure, FSIS has advised consumers who may have bought Hempler Food Group’s pepperoni sticks not to consume them.
“These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” the government agency said in a statement on Thursday 4 January.
Hempler Food Group could not be reached for comment at the time of writing.
Recall – what you need to know
Only one type of product is subject to this recall: 2.25lb vacuum-packed packages with a label that reads ‘Hempler’s Family Classic Pepperoni Natural Smoke Flavouring Added’. The product is gluten free and contains no monosodium glutamate (MSG).
