David Colwell named chairman of Canadian Meat Council

The Canadian Meat Council has appointed David Colwell as chairman for its board of directors for the next two years.

Appointed with immediate effect, the decision was approved during Canadian Meat Council’s annual conference and general meeting in Montreal last week.

Colwell revealed he was looking forward to exploring opportunities to partner and work more collaboratively with other trade associations.

Colwell is currently president of JBS Canada’s beef sector after being appointed in July 2016. He has also held positions such as sales executive for Colorado Box Beef and VP distribution with JBS.

The new chairman will join a host of other names on the board of directors, including Troy Warren from Sure Good Foods and Arnold Drung from Conestoga Meat Packers.

The Canadian Meat Council’s president and CEO Chris White said Colwell would bring a broad amount of experience to the board of directors’ panel.

The staff of the Canadian Meat Council are pleased to have someone of David’s immense experience and political acumen to help guide the Canadian Meat Council, as we work with government and other stakeholders to advance the key interests of the Canadian Meat Council’s members.”

The Canadian Meat Council represents Canada’s federally registered meat packers, meat processors and equipment suppliers.
