German flavors and fragrances company Symrise AG has opened a US facility near Atlanta, Georgia, for the production of natural food ingredients, investing approximately US$57m in the nearly 100 acre site to grow its US business.

Symrise also recently opened a plant for the production of its cosmetic ingredients in the US in South Carolina.

The Georgia plant will manufacture products for Symrise’s food ingredients, flavorings, and pet food business units.

Its food ingredients business, called 'dianafood', has capabilities to help food companies develop products across multiple categories including soups, sauces, ready meals, processed meat, snacks, and beverages, focused on improving taste, texture, color, and nutrition.

The company has plans to continually expand its Georgia production facility through 2020 and will expand its current workforce of 50 employees to 100 employees in the next two years.

“This advantageous location in the USA’s well-developed agricultural southeast enables us to strategically grow on the market for natural and sustainable food ingredients. The expansion of our capacities is and continues to be an important growth factor,” Symrise AG CEO Dr. Heinz-Jürgen Bertram, said.

Symrise reported double-digit organic sales growth for its North American business (sales reached $393m) with a strong performance for its beverage applications business, according to the company H1 2018 earnings report.

“We are strengthening our competitiveness for the traditionally largest market in our industry. In addition, we are strategically developing our backwards integration focusing on agriculturally produced raw materials.”
