Check out FoodNavigator-USA’s latest gallery of new products hitting US shelves, where healthy fats, high protein claims and pre- and probiotics feature heavily as we head into 2019…
As Chobani launched kids’ yogurt brand Gimmies, rival Danone North America unveiled Two Good: a Greek lowfat yogurt from Light & Fit with 2g sugar, 12g protein and 80 calories/serving. Sweetened with Reb M from the stevia leaf, the yogurt is produced via a “patent pending slow-straining batching process that removes the sugar [lactose] from the milk used to make the yogurt.”
“What’s left is a thick, creamy Greek lowfat yogurt product with way less sugar, still rich in protein and all the deliciousness you would expect from Light & Fit.”
Two Good is available in Vanilla, Mixed Berry, Peach, Strawberry and Blueberry (MSRP $1.49).
Danone North America is also tapping into the ‘fat is back’ trend with Oh!, a double-cream yogurt (8.5% milkfat) under the Oikos brand that will roll out nationwide in 2019.
Available in Lemon Sweet Cream Delight, Magnificent Mixed Berry Rhubarb, Salt-Dusted Caramel Crème and Honey Drizzled Blueberry flavors, Oikos Oh! will have an MSRP of $1.49.
Danone has also been innovating in the burgeoning plant-based yogurt segment, with the launch of Good Plants, which features Chr. Hansen’s BB-12 probiotic, and is made with almondmilk, chicory root fiber, and fava bean protein, and sweetened with cane sugar and stevia extract.

There has been a flurry of launches - and proposed launches – of beverages containing CBD (cannabidiol), an ingredient that the FDA has repeatedly stated is not a legal dietary ingredient.
While many firms are pinning their hopes on the passage of a Farm Bill with new hemp provisions, this doesn’t have any bearing on the FDA’s position that CBD is not a permissible ingredient in a food, beverage or supplement because it was investigated as a new drug by GW Pharma back in 2007, stresses Greenberg Traurig attorney Justin Prochnow:
“I see all these emails going around saying once the Farm Bill passes, CBD is legal in all 50 states – and that’s just not true at all.”
While Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey recently told investors that “We don't have any plans at this stage to get into this [CBD] space,” Coca-Cola is working on Coca-Cola Energy, which will be made with "naturally-derived caffeine and guarana extract," a spokesperson told Reuters.
