Argentina’s government department for agro-industry has unveiled a free public platform to provide daily business data and prices agreed between buyers and sellers in the pork market.

The tool has been launched by government secretary for agro-industry Luis Miguel Etchevehere, along with under secretary for agricultural markets Jesus Silveyra, to make the pork chain “transparent” and increase relationships between buyers and sellers.

Other applications of the tool include average pork prices, the number of tonnes according to the production zone, and how to make concrete actions when negotiating with buyers.

Etchevehere said the initiative would generate greater competitiveness in Argentina for the pork market.

This launch is another step forward that we are taking to achieve transparent and competitive processes in this activity,” said Etchevehere. “From the first day we committed ourselves to make sure agricultural markets grew on a daily basis, with clear and precise information, so that producers can make decisions when producing in the agro-industry.”

Argentina’s department for agro-industry recently took the decision to modify the minimum slaughter weight of female bovine animals to 140kg from 165kg.
