The two parties did not disclose the length or terms of the agreement, but said the “new and expanded partnership will help to ensure Merisant’s long-term supply of the best-tasting stevia ingredients.”
PureCircle CEO Maga Malsagov added: “This new agreement will benefit both companies, assuring Merisant an expanded supply of next generation stevia sweeteners and assuring PureCircle a growing stream of sales to Merisant for its great-tasting stevia ingredients.”
Purecircle has been aggressively expanding its capacity to supply the best-tasting, but more scarce, steviol glycosides such as Reb M and Reb D from the stevia leaf, recently unveiling plans to significantly increase the acreage used to grow its proprietary Starleaf stevia in the US.
PureCircle produces Reb M directly from Starleaf stevia plants, but has also developed techniques to produce it via an enzymatic conversation process from other stevia sweeteners extracted from the plants.
