Plant milk… with extra protein, calcium, and DHA
Silk’s new DHA omega-3 oatmilk, almondmilk, and pea protein beverage - available in Original and Unsweetened Vanilla flavors - delivers 50% more calcium than traditional dairy milk, 6g pea protein, and 32mg of long chain omega-3 fatty acid DHA per serving ($3.99/half-gallon).
“Consumers like that most of our beverages have more calcium, less sugar and fewer calories,” said Domenic Borrelli, president of plant-based food & beverages and premium dairy at brand owner Danone North America.
As for the DHA, he added: “Brain health is a topic that’s important to kids and families, and there are limited options in the plant-based category that offer products with key nutrients such as DHA.”
Asked about the potential of oatmilk in plant-based dairy, he said: “We see strong interest in oatmilk for a few reasons. Its neutral taste and creamy texture is reminiscent of traditional dairy milk. Taste and texture are typically two of the biggest barriers for people considering plant-based beverages, and when consumers taste our oatmilk products, and experience the versatility, they notice a step-change.
“It’s also a great option for those with nut or soy allergies, or anyone simply seeking a creamy, dairy-free product. Because of its neutral flavor and creamy texture, it works well as a base in a variety of Silk products.”
