US food manufacturer Hormel Foods has reported a 14% drop in profits in the first quarter of 2012, down to $128.4m from $148.8m in Q1 2011. Overall sales were up 6% to $2.04bn, despite a 2% decline in volume.

FDA offers support in industry roll-out of Facts Up Front labeling

The FDA wrote to the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) and the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) in December in support of the trade groups’ front-of-pack labeling program, saying it would exercise enforcement discretion for certain aspects of the scheme.
