Bimbo Bakeries to build $75m factory in US
Bimbo Bakeries USA plans to invest $75m in a new facility in Texas, US, to produce bread and buns.

The announcement came from The Rockwall Economic Development Corporation, owners of the Rockwall Technology Park where Bimbo’s 300,000 sq ft factory will be built.

The plant will begin operating across two large baking lines, but further lines and products could be added at a later stage.

Bimbo is expected to recruit 130 employees to man the new plant.

Bimbo in the US

Mexican firm Grupo Bimbo acquired Mrs. Baird’s Bakeries in Texas in 1998. The US operation was later renamed Bimbo Bakeries USA.

Bimbo currently has manufacturing sites in the US where it produces brands including Earthgrains, Entenmann’s, Francisco and Sara Lee Breads.

Its US headquarters are based in in Horsham, Pennsylvania.

Expanding reach

News of the new US plant comes soon after Grupo Bimbo announced plans to expand its sales and distribution in North America.

In February, the company said it was to invest $4.4m 60m pesos for a new sales and distribution site in Yucatán in South-East Mexico that would bring an additional 400 jobs.

Bimbo Bakeries USA also expanded distribution of Sara Lee Breads to Northeast markets in the US last month.

Bimbo acquired Sara Lee’s North American Fresh Bakery operation, which includes Sara Lee Breads, for $709m in November last year.
