Mountaire Farms opens new poultry site
It will employ 1,250 people when fully staffed and is the company’s second facility in the state. When fully operational, the new plant will be able to process 1.4 million chickens a week from more than 100 local family farms. This is the company’s fourth major poultry processing facility.

North Carolina lieutenant governor Dan Forest was in attendance for the opening. He said: “Mountaire has been a leader in the North Carolina agriculture sector for years. The expansion of the new facility in our state not only showcases their success, but also their commitment to our workforce and communities. I’m excited to see this company grow and continue to impact our state in a positive way.”
As well as the processing facility, Mountaire Farms also opened a Health and Wellness Center at the 40-acre site, which all employees will be able to access.
The business is also working on expanding its hatching facility in North Carolina. This two-year US$18m project will increase the size of the building by about 38,000ft2, increase egg set capacity to 2.7 million eggs a week and take the workforce from 16 to 42.
